The joint partnership between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) and Moorfields Eye Charity is creating a new world-leading centre that will push the boundaries of eye research, deliver breakthrough treatments to the front line of patient care and revolutionise vision healthcare around the world.
The new centre in Camden, located in the heart of the Knowledge Quarter, an internationally renowned hub for science and innovation, is designed around the patient experience, embracing new technologies to develop excellence and innovation in clinical care and attracting and retaining the world’s leading clinical, healthcare and research talent.
Philanthropy is critical to the delivery of this centre. It is helping to transform eye care in London, across the UK, and around the world.
Moorfields Eye Charity and UCL plan to raise over £100 million in philanthropic support. £80 million will support the capital component of the project and £25 million will bolster and enhance research and education capabilities ensuring that Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL remain at the forefront of global ophthalmic research and education as they move into their new home.
The impact of the new centre in delivering scientific breakthroughs in both basic and clinical science leading to new generations of diagnostics and therapies for patients across the world reflects the importance of this collaborative approach.
