During 21 July – 31 August we’re running a public engagement campaign about the Oriel creative programme.

It’s a chance to have your say on what art, heritage and ‘science on show’ could be on display in our new centre for eye care, research, and education.

Please share your thoughts via this survey – it takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Why have a creative programme?
Art in hospitals has been shown to contribute towards positive patient outcomes, including shorter recovery times, and even a reduced use of pain medication. Medical centres across the world integrate art, heritage and ‘science on show’ to help people feel better, work better, and heal better. Evidence shows art and design within healthcare settings improves the way people relate to each other, supports an increased sense of calm and improves staff and patient wellbeing.

You don’t need to be an art expert to get the benefits – art, including the performing arts, can bring a different perspective, a sense of calm, and help to process difficult emotions or to motivate and energise you.

‘Science on show’ can teach us things and celebrating the heritage of Moorfields and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology can make us feel proud – as well as being a calm place to receive care, we want the new centre to be a place to learn and be inspired.

The survey closes on 31 August 2025.
