In March we held a three-day Oriel design public showcase at the Moorfields and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology education hub on Ebenezer Street to display designs for the new centre for advancing eye health.

More than 700 visitors came along to see and feel interior and exterior designs for our new centre and to learn about the co-design process we’ve followed over the past six years.

The showcase was an in-person opportunity to view the designs, feel tactile models and building materials, watch fly-through animations of parts of the buildings, share reflections and ask questions. Design and accessibility experts were on hand at the showcase to answer questions and explain the building’s design principles.

Thank you to everyone who attended, it was fantastic to welcome so many people with different connections to Oriel. This included staff from Moorfields, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity, patients, students, volunteers, donors, stakeholders, local residents and members of the public.

We plan to open the new centre in 2027.
