In line with Cabinet Office guidance on the conduct of public service business during a pre-election period, we have agreed to pause the process until after the General Election on 12 December 2019.
Update on current status
- Moorfields and its partners, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity, are proposing to build a new centre bringing together excellent eye care, with ground-breaking research and education. The preferred location is a site that has become available at St Pancras Hospital, just north of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations in central London.
- The proposal, called Oriel, was the subject of a public consultation from 24 May to 16 September 2019.
- A draft report summarising the findings from consultation was published on the Oriel website on 23 October 2019 to give people the opportunity to comment before publishing the final report.
- We are grateful to all those who have given feedback on the report and these comments will be taken into account before publishing the final report later this year when the pre-election period has ended.
- A joint health overview and scrutiny committee (JHOSC) led by local authorities in north central London is due to give a view in response to the consultation, as required by national regulations. The JHOSC was to consider the proposal at its next public meeting at the end of November.
New dates for decision-making
31 January 2020 – North Central London JHOSC to consider the Moorfields proposal at its meeting in public.
February 2020 – NHS England Specialised Commissioning and CCGs’ Committees-in-Common consider outcome of consultation and Decision-Making Business Case.
We remain fully committed to proceeding with the decision making stage of this important consultation and will update you again in December 2019 with further details.
