Moorfields Eye Charity is delighted to announce that it will again partner with the NIHR Academy on the Health Education England (HEE) and NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) Programme to support pre-doctoral clinical academic fellowships (PCAF).

This builds on our partnership, announced in October 2018, with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Academy to offer joint Doctoral Fellowships as part of the first NIHR charity partner programme.  The broader HEE/NIHR ICA Programme provides personal research training awards for healthcare professionals (excluding doctors and dentists) who wish to develop careers that combine clinical research and research leadership with continued clinical practice and clinical development. PCAF fund personalised programmes of academic training that will equip awardees with the skills and experience to access doctoral level funding and dedicated time to prepare an application for a competitive, peer-reviewed doctoral level research training fellowship.

Roxanne Crosby-Nwaobi, head of research nursing, Moorfields Eye Hospital said

I am thrilled and excited by the collaborative partnership of the Moorfields Eye Charity and the HEE/NIHR PCAF scheme. This endeavour demonstrates the charity’s commitment to enabling nurses and AHPs to achieve clinical, research and leadership excellence to the ultimate benefit of the patient. I am proud to work with such a progressive and inclusive organisation.

NIHR charity partnership fellows will be part of an active and supportive clinical research community, which allows the opportunity for cross sector working; helping successful applicants to become future research and clinical leaders.  Clinical academics bridge the NHS and academia, being ideally placed to recognise, test and answer important research questions and carry out research that will benefit patients.

Our mission is to support Moorfields Eye Hospital to discover, develop and deliver the best eye care. We are very proud to be a partner with HEE/NIHR on this fellowship scheme.  It is an exciting opportunity to support nurses, optometrists, allied health professionals and pharmacists who have a joint ambition with Moorfields Eye Hospital to advance excellence in eye care through world leading research, training and treatments.
